MEDIA RELEASE: 9th June 2021
At Richgro, sustainability is an integral part of the business and the company recognises the role it has to play in providing products that minimise their impact on the environment.
Richgro has proudly partnered with REDcycle to support the recovery and reuse of post-consumer soft plastic. This collaboration will provide consumers with a widely available, sustainable disposal option for their soft plastic packaging, diverting those from landfill.
RED Group developed and implemented the REDcycle Program; an innovative, recovery model for post-consumer and film plastic packaging. Soft plastic packaging recovered from Australian consumers from over 1900 retail drop off points are sent to local partners for conversion into recycled plastic furniture for schools and communities, asphalt for municipal roads, and raw material for products such as garden edging and wheel stops.
“It is my pleasure to announce that Richgro is registering two new products under the REDcycle program for launch this year and we hope to have many more in the future. Those products will bear the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) and the REDcycle™ logo to inform consumers that the packaging is recyclable and direct them to the nearest drop off location via the REDcycle store locator”. said Heath Okely, National Marketing Manager of Richgro.
Over 2.5 billion pieces of soft plastic have been returned by customers to the REDcycle bins since 2012. Currently, just over 3.5 million pieces of soft plastic (bags and packaging) returned by Australian consumers are recovered every week by the RED Group.
