What’s a Grow Bag?

Mobslider Spring Grow Bag 2022

A grow bag is essentially a potting mix-filled bag designed specifically for growing herbs and veggies. It’s like having a portable garden in a bag!

Richgro, Australian-owned and family-operated with over a century of experience, has crafted this innovative product to make gardening accessible to everyone.

Why Choose the Richgro Grow Bag?

August Slider 2022 Grow Bag4

  1. Space-Saving: Whether you’re in an apartment or have limited outdoor space, the Tomato & Vegetable Grow Bag fits right in. No need for a large garden bed!
  2. Easy Setup: Lightweight and user-friendly, the grow bag is a breeze to set up. Even kids can get involved.
  3. Versatility: You can grow almost anything in these bags—tomatoes, cucumbers, capsicums, chillies, peas, beans, eggplants, herbs, and salad greens.
  4. Balanced Mix: The potting mix inside the bag is carefully formulated for optimal growth and is a Premium certified Australian Standard mix.
  5. Two Months of Feeding: The grow bag provides nutrients for up to two months, ensuring your plants thrive.
  6. Seaweed Boost: Richgro’s blend includes a seaweed boost, promoting healthy root development.

How to Get Started:

  1. Shake It Up: Shake the mix evenly throughout the bag to loosen it up. This allows roots to grow evenly and fill out the whole bag.
  2. Add Drainage: Turn the bag over and poke holes in for drainage to allow excess water to drain out and prevent the mix and roots from getting saturated. (See markings on the bottom of the bag.)
  3. Cut and Plant: Following the dotted lines cut holes out for planting pockets. Directly sow seeds or place seedlings into the 25L bag.
  4. Place: Find a sunny spot for your grow bag.
  5. Water and Feed: Regular watering and feeding will keep your plants happy. Maintaining healthy vegetables requires daily attention, and when it comes to grow bags, proper watering is crucial. These bags tend to drain quickly, so here’s how to keep your plants thriving:
  • Little and Often: Instead of infrequent deep soaks, water your grow bag little by little. Frequent, light watering ensures consistent moisture without over saturation.
  • Nutrient-Rich Mix: The potting mix inside the grow bag provides nutrients for approximately 8 weeks. During this period, it’s perfect for establishing seedlings.
  • Fertilise with Care: After the initial 8 weeks, fertilise with Richgro Black Marvel Liquid Tomato and Vegetable food. It is high in potash to help produce plentiful vegetables plus added iron and trace elements for rich green leaves and overall plant health. Feed every 10 to 14 days up until harvest.
  • Harvest and Reuse: Once the season ends or your crop is harvested, reuse the bag’s contents. Add them to your compost heap or incorporate them into another garden bed. This organic matter enriches the soil structure.

And there you have it! The Richgro Grow Bag—a simple, space-saving way to enjoy fresh homegrown produce.

I just love how it’s a great way to spend some time with the family and bond as you care for your plants and watch them grow.  You’ll have to be quick though as the Grow Bag is only available at Bunnings for a limited time this Spring.

Happy Gardening!
