Propagating your own plants is one of the most gratifying aspects of gardening. Growing your own plants is an inexpensive way to build up your own garden; it is also relatively fast and doesn't require a lot of "know-how". In addition plants "made at home" can go on to become nice gifts that are "easy on the pocket".
A range of simple techniques can be used to propagate most plants including succulent species. The most popular methods are raising from seeds and growing from cuttings and Richgro has a wide range of products that makes both propagation types an easy and enjoyable task.
Start seeds in a well drained, sterile mix. Water in moderation but do not allow the seedlings to dry out. Seeds cannot germinate until moisture has penetrated the hard seed coat.

Seeds grown in normal soil have a low survival rate; this is because garden soil can contain harmful bugs or fungi. Normal soil also has large particles which inhibit the seed reaching the soil surface. As such it is usually best to start seedlings in an artificial mix which is free from harmful organisms and is screened to ensure consistent soil particle size.

For optimum results use a blend such as Richgro Expert Gardener seed and cutting mix which was specifically designed to ensure that your seeds and cuttings get the best possible chance at becoming strong healthy plants.
