Watering your plants properly is key to a healthy thriving garden. To ensure that the water applied gets to the plants roots where it is needed and not run off the soil surface and down the street use a quality soil wetting agent such as Richgro EZI-WET which helps water penetration. Also use water storing crystals to hold water in the soil in a form that the plants can draw on when needed. Never plant without them, even in the middle of Winter.

 And don't forget to mulch throughout the year. A good quality mulch will reduce evaporation of water from the soil keeping it moist for plants. This will in turn reduce the amount of watering required.
